Late 2001--- what was then the 10U
Lady Sluggers, were the newest addition to the Louisville
Lady Slugger Organization. Formed by Manager Frank Lee, the
10U team joined the 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U teams in the
drive to maintain the "world-class" reputation the Slugger
Organization has earned.
The sluggers are known throughout for their sportsmanship,
discipline, drive and camaraderie, as well as for their
athleticism.
The 10U Lady Sluggers began that debut season in 2002 with a
fierce drive and determination to live up to the Lady
Slugger reputation, and were fortunate enough to meet and
surpass all expectations!!
In addition to winning the USSSA Pepsi Classic in Fort Knox
and the Firecracker Classic in Shepherdsville, the 10U Lady
Sluggers were undefeated in the state of KY as 10's and were
the reigning ASA State Champs. These 10U Sluggers also
played in three 12U tournaments, winning one in Fort Knox,
and winning another one in Indianapolis which qualified them
for the USSSA 12U World Tournament (as 10s)!
| The Sluggers
ended that 10U season with a victory in Disney's ASA/NIT
Thanksgivingfest, in which the Sluggers won six straight
games to capture the title, claiming the only division
that a Florida team didn't sweep!! The Sluggers
considered it an honor to have been invited and to
represent the KY and Southern IN region and would like
to thank Charles Scott and the KY ASA chapter for giving
them the opportunity of a lifetime!! An incredible
finish to an incredible season! |

The 2003 Season...
The Sluggers set high
goals for their first 12U 2003 season with a team of mostly
11 year-olds and had a very successful season. |
|
Among the
accomplishments of the 2003 season were highlights such
as winning the 12U 2003 USSSA Pepsi Classic at
Fort Knox Kentucky (right) and winning the 12U Crieve
Hall Halloween Classic in Nashville Tennessee (shown
below).
This team as 11s competed strongly in three 14U
tournaments, compiling an 8 - 6 record against the older
competition. |

Lady Sluggers play strong in
14 year-old division of Firecracker Classic! |
|

|
June
27th, 2004
Shepherdsville, Kentucky
Following up their strong finish in Detroit at the Compuware
Classic, the 12U Lady Sluggers ventured into the 14 year-old
division for the first time this year at the Firecracker
Classic.
After cruising to victories in their first two contests, the
Sluggers fell to a talented Grayson County team 3-2.
This created a match up with the 14U Lady Sluggers. In a
well played game, the 12U Sluggers came away victorious with a
3-2 win. |
| Needing
one more victory to reach the championship game, the Lady
Sluggers fought hard and played well in a game against a more
experienced squad, before loosing in another one-run affair- 2-1. As most of their
other tournaments- the team that gets by the Sluggers ends up
winning the tournament, and this time it was no different. |
| The
one-run loss was a good end to a weekend of strong, gritty and
respectable performances by the younger Louisville Lady
Sluggers! |

Sluggers win
"Consolation Flight" at famed
Compuware Classic |
 |
|
 |
June 20th,
2004
Detroit, Michigan
Battling against some of the finest teams in the midwest,
the Louisville Lady Sluggers captured the Consolation
Bracket Championship this weekend while finishing with an
overall record of 6 wins and 2 losses. |
|
 |
The
opening game found the Sluggers matched against their
"nemesis" and eventual Compuware Champs-The Indiana
Shockwaves Red. In what proved to be another tough
one-run loss to this excellent team, the Sluggers fell by a
score of 2-1.
The Sluggers rebounded to win their next 2 games but were
knocked into the Consolation Bracket after suffering a loss
to the Central Ohio 12U Stingrays, who avenged a loss
earlier in the year at the hands of the Sluggers in
Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Sluggers went on to finish strong and bring a fitting
close to what was a wonderful weekend of high-caliber
softball at a high-caliber complex. Congratulations to
everyone that was a part of this tournament. |

Sluggers defeat Lexington Legacy 8-4! |
|
July 18th,
2004
Ft Knox, Kentucky
The 12U Lady Sluggers put the finishing touches on an
undefeated weekend in the 14U Worth Invitational by
defeating the 14U Legacy team from Lexington, Kentucky in
an extra inning affair that proved to be a gutsy and
determined performance by this young group of Sluggers and
a good tune-up before the ASA Nationals.
|
The Sluggers were the only undefeated team through
pool-play competition, posting wins over strong teams such
as the Louisville Majestics (2-0).
The Sluggers then advanced
through the elimination round with wins over the Meade
County Waverunners and Derby City Ramblers before reaching
the championship game in a first ever meeting in the
history of this Slugger team and a Lexington Legacy team.
The Sluggers took a 1-0 lead in the early innings, only to
find themselves fighting back from deficits of 2-1 and
3-2 to force extra innings with the score tied at 3
at the end of 7 innings.
After starting the top half of the 8th inning with the
"tie-breaker" situation, the Sluggers erupted for 5
runs to open up a lead of 8-3. It was a lead that proved
to be to much for the Legacy to overcome, allowing the Sluggers
to capture their 3rd championship of the
2004 season.

The "Rain" Wins at Ohio
Stingray Classic!!! |
July 11th, 2004
Columbus, Ohio
No, there wasn't a team called the "rain" in the
20-team Stingray
Classic held this weekend on the campus of Ohio State
University--- it's just that the fields were no match for
the downpour that wiped out this great tournament just as
the Sluggers were about to advance into the semifinals to
face a familiar foe- the
Indiana Shockwaves (Red).
The Sluggers started the tournament winning their first 2
"pool" games against the OFC Heat and Bustros Ultimates
before suffering a defeat at the hands of the very strong
Ohio Wolfpack 6-2.
The Sluggers advanced past their first opponent in the
elimination round- the Miami Valley Xpress and moved into the
quarterfinals matched against the Westerville Ohio Ice, a
nice team that had won their "pool".
Prior to the skies opening up in their half of the 4th, the
Sluggers had opened up a 7-0 lead on the Ice and were
looking to advance into the next round to meet the other 3
teams left--- both
Indiana Shockwave teams and the Wolfpack. Three great teams
and "pool" winners, that along with the Sluggers, were sure
to create a wonderful finish to the tournament. |

The Ohio
State University complex was a great atmosphere in
which to play ball. The Sluggers look forward to
returning in the future. |

October 23-24; 2004
Nashville, Tennessee
In preparation for the
Disney Thanksgivingfest ASA 12U National Tournament in Orlando,
Florida- the Sluggers participated in the Xtreme Edge ASA 14U
tournament in Music City USA!
In what was their first action since the ASA Nationals, the Sluggers
shook off the rust to play strong and inspired ball against a very
competitive and balanced group of teams. |
After squeaking past the Southern
Illinois Express 2-0 in a late Saturday afternoon game, the Sluggers
were matched against the Nashville Cruisers to whom they fell by a
score of 6-5 to end play on Saturday.
|
Sunday began
with another match up with the Southern Illinois Express. In a
game that featured several defensive gems and gutty pitching
performances, the Sluggers fell in a 2-extra inning affair 2-1.
Congratulations to all teams and especially the Cruisers who avenged
an earlier loss to the Express to take home the 2004 Xtreme Edge
title.
It was great for the Sluggers to get back on the field
after a layoff that found most of the girls playing volleyball for
their school teams over the past several weeks. The girls are
looking forward to a Florida Thanksgiving and softball fun as they
end their 12U days and a very successful year! |

Sluggers bring home the
gold!
2004 12U season comes to an end... |
November 25-28; 2004
Disney World, Florida
|
|
The
Louisville Lady Sluggers capped off a successful 2004 campaign
by accomplishing a goal they had set for themselves at the
beginning of the year- successfully defending their
10-year old crown won in 2002 at the Disney ThanksgivingFest
at Disney's Wide World Of Sports
Complex.
The favored Sluggers faced tough competition throughout the
tournament from teams that were determined to stop them from
advancing thru the single-elimination tournament including
Florida's Seminole Warriors who were the runner-up team to the
Sluggers back in 2002 and a team who would also have to fend off
challenges of their own to return to the title game and win the
tournament that had eluded them in the past.
The Sluggers opened up with a 7-1 victory over the New Jersey
Marauders in an afternoon game on Thanksgiving Day. The
Marauders played a gutsy game against a Slugger team that had
decided early that they were not going to be denied bringing
home the gold! |
|
| |
|
If the
Sluggers were to make it to the title game they were going to
have to dispose of Florida teams along the way, beginning with the Tanami (Miami) Lady Panthers, who would give the Sluggers all
they wanted before falling 1-0. The journey would continue
as the Sluggers fought their way to victories against two
Jacksonville area teams- The Synergy and The Jax
(congratulations to the Jax on their own big win in the
tourney).
While the Sluggers were taking care of business
against The Jax in the semifinals, the Warriors were in a battle against the Lady Panthers.
The Seminoles would eventually win in extra innings to set
up the rematch that had been on the minds of both teams for the
past 2 years.
After a couple of scoreless innings the Sluggers went to work
and
secured a 5-1 victory over the talented Florida Seminole Warriors, using a combination of
great pitching, tight defense,
smart base running, consistent hitting, inspired determination and
of course- their Slugger pride! |

Congratulations on winning their fourth championship in the
2004 season!
The Sluggers played a thrilling schedule that not only took them
to Orlando but also found them in Atlanta and all the way up to
Kalamazoo- wanting to play the best while giving it their best!
